Los Gatos Village - Aging in Place

     The “village” concept provides a variety of services to older adults on a membership basis, helping them remain safely, confidently, and actively in their own homes as they age. Los Gatos Thrives Foundation is exploring the creation of a Greater Los Gatos Village to support healthy aging in place. The village model would provide a subscription-based organization that provides trusted local resources for transportation, home-support services, social activities, wellness programs, volunteers, and vetted providers of services. The Village would help fill the important gap between living independently with little assistance and needing more intensive formal care, while also addressing the growing challenge of social isolation.

   The proposed Village would build on the strengths of the Greater Los Gatos community by connecting residents with one another and with existing nonprofits, health care providers, town programs, and other community resources rather than duplicating services. It would provide opportunities for older adults to remain engaged, contribute their skills and experience through volunteerism, and maintain strong connections to the community they have helped build. 

   Over time, the Village is envisioned as an important program within or closely associated with our proposed new, intergenerational Los Gatos Community Center, providing a welcoming place where all ages can connect, participate, access resources, and remain an active part of a vibrant community. Los Gatos Thrives plans to begin with community research and engagement to understand local needs and design a Village specifically for the Greater Los Gatos area, with the goal of launching the program as this work progresses.
