The Los Gatos Thrives Foundation held a Los Gatos Community Center Design Event on October 14. This phase 2 workshop's purpose was to engage the community in planning spaces and functions for a new Los Gatos community center. The workshop also summarized phase 1 community needs learning from our June workshop and survey, as well as gathered input on site selection pros and cons. The results of the workshop are being used to develop a preliminary design concept document for further consideration. For more information go to LGCommunityCenter.org or click on:
Why a Community Center
Many towns in the bay area have a community center - but not Los Gatos.
A community center for all ages unlocks the potential of a town. Los Gatos has engaged citizens, clubs, groups and organizations who do a lot and would like to do so much more, but there is one thing holding them back: a lack of facilities.
A Community Center Needs Survey completed
To help assemble community input for the design of a new community center a Community Survey was completed during May-June 2024. Over 600 responses to the survey of community center needs representing 1800 people was obtained, with a large majority supporting the creation of a new Community Center for Los Gatos.
Community Center Dreaming workshop held.
To gather more in-depth community input a Community Center Dreaming workshop was held on June 20 at the Masonic Lodge in downtown Los Gatos. The workshop was a great success with over 80 community members providing valuable input on what Los Gatos needs in a community center. The results of the survey and workshop indicated a strong interest in the creation of a Los Gatos Community Center that serves all ages and provided detailed information about community priorities for a new center.
Analysis of Community Needs and Draft Report
Learning from participants of the community needs workshop, the survey results, visits to six neighboring city community centers and input from the Town's Community Health and Senior Services Commission have been analyzed and incorporated into a draft report on community needs for a Los Gatos Community Center. The October 14 Community Center Design Event will plan spaces and functions, as well as summarize phase 1 needs results and gather input on site selection pros and cons. Results will be incorporated into a draft community center report for presentation to the Town Council in November.
